Occupational Therapy focuses on helping individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives, especially those skills required to address the typical activities required for daily living. Often after a significant injury or illness, some of the abilities to address daily needs are lost. Occupational Therapy helps to restore these abilities or to provide compensating strategies to enable you to accomplish your needs. Some typical areas addressed include dressing, eating/cooking, grooming/hygiene, bathing and other activities necessary for you to live as independently as possible. Occupational Therapy may also target the function, dexterity and strength of upper extremities in order to provide greater capabilities to meet your daily activity needs. Your Occupational Therapy team will also address educational needs that you or your family members may require.
At Highlands, the Occupational Therapist will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your needs, and develop a treatment plan to meet your goals and help you reach the maximum level of independence possible.
